We’re always happy to assist our guests with local transport options, on-site rentals, and any mobility-related questions. But if you don’t like driving and decide to come to Il Cubetto without your own vehicle, it’s important to be aware in advance of the limitations of public transportation here and what options are available to you.
BY TRAIN
The nearest train station is Rosignano Solvay, served by many regional and some national trains coming from the larger stations of Livorno and Pisa. Livorno and Pisa connect to national and even some international routes.
The easiest way to get to Il Cubetto from Rosignano Solvay station (and back) is to book a lift with us in advance using our private cars—we only ask for a reimbursement of time and fuel. You can also book a taxi (see below), but this will likely be more expensive. A third alternative is the Pronto Bus, though it runs on restricted hours and must be booked in advance (details below). If you arrive during its operational window, you can reserve a trip from the ‘ASL Moro’ stop (Rosignano Solvay’s local health center), just ten minutes on foot from the station, heading to Castelnuovo Misericordia.

Getting at Il Cubetto by bus from the Rosignano Solvay station is less straightforward: The closest bus stop is still the one ASL Moro but, depending on the schedule, you might have to wait a long time for a connection to Castelnuovo Misericordia, where we are located. You can always check local transport lines and schedules using the travel planner here:
https://www.at-bus.it/en/lines-and-timetables/travel-planner
From Rosignano station, you can also reach many coastal destinations by train. Keep in mind, though, that stations are usually inside the villages, while the best beaches are often outside. During high season, some municipalities offer free shuttle services to the beaches, but you’ll need to check if these are operating when you’ll need them.
BY PLANE
The closest airport is Pisa. Car rentals here offer the best prices, especially if booked online in advance. If you don’t plan to rent a car, you have two options:
- Take the train from Pisa Airport station to Rosignano Solvay station (this always requires a transfer at Pisa Centrale station), then book a ride to Il Cubetto either with us or with the Colombaioni taxi agency (see below).
- Book a direct transfer from the airport to Il Cubetto with us or Colombaioni taxi.
LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Once you arrive here, no problem if your goal is just to relax by the pool—you can do your grocery shopping here in the village within about a 20-minute walk. But if you want to explore the beaches, restaurants, and sights nearby using local transport, be aware that buses may not run very often, you might have to change lines multiple times (bus to bus, or bus to train), and even after reaching the station, you may still need a private taxi to get to your final destination.
For local bus schedules and routes, you can use the Autolinee Toscane travel planner here:
https://www.at-bus.it/en/lines-and-timetables/travel-planner
or call their information service (available daily from 6 am to midnight, press 1 for English):
As regards bus ticket purchase, you can pay contactless on the bus with Mastercard, Visa or American Express cards. The system is called Tap&Tap: simply tap your card on the reader when boarding and again before getting off.
Alternatively you can buy the ticket from the driver in cash with a little overcharge, or purchase it at the tobacco shops (the ones with the big T outside) closest to the bus stops. There is only a tobacco shop in our village, and it is here:

PRONTO BUS
This is an on-demand shuttle service that’s very convenient but unfortunately limited in both operating hours and coverage areas. However, it connects to key transfer hubs in Rosignano Marittimo (Piazza della Chiesa) and Rosignano Solvay (Piazza Musselburgh), where regular and intercity buses run much more frequently.
The minibus picks you up by appointment at designated bus stops (the closest to us is in our village square, Castelnuovo Misericordia) and takes you directly-without transfers-to various destinations within the municipality of Rosignano Marittimo, including Gabbro, Nibbiaia, Rosignano Solvay, and Castiglioncello.
It operates Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays, with the following schedules:
– 16 September / 10 June: 8:50 AM – 11:50 AM and 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM
– 11 June / 15 September: 8:00 AM – 12:20 PM
Reservations are required by calling
between 7:00–9:00 AM or 1:00–3:30 PM, at least 45 minutes before your desired departure time.
FREE SHUTTLES TO THE BEACHES
In summer, if you’re heading to beaches between Castiglioncello and Marina di Bibbona, you can park for free at the Via Musselburgh lot in Rosignano Solvay, or in the parking lot adjacent to the Coop’s (be careful not to park in the Coop’s lot instead, as parking there is only for customers and is time-limited), or also in the nearby streets, then take the free shuttle bus number 114 by Autolinee Toscane from the stop in front of the Coop supermarket to the beaches.
From June 13 to 30 and September 1 to 13, the shuttle runs only on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:50 pm to 12:40 am. In July and August, it runs every day every 45 minutes.

TAXIS
In Italy public taxis with reasonable fares are generally only found in cities, and services like Uber operate only in some large cities. Outside urban areas, taxis are private and therefore quite expensive.
In our area, there is one taxi agency offering reliable 24-hour service. We always recommend asking for a quote before booking. They answer via their website form, e-mail, phone, and WhatsApp (also in English):
Colombaioni Taxi Agency
tel. & WhatsApp: +39 335 5914640
RENTALS: MOTORBIKES, SCOOTERS, E-BIKES, AND BICYCLES
In Rosignano, there’s a rental company offering cars, motorcycles, scooters, e-bikes, and bicycles. Keep in mind that the area is hilly, so if you rent a bike, make sure you’re prepared for some uphill rides. If you’re planning a relaxing holiday but want transport for a few days of exploring, renting might be the best option.
You can request a quote and book by e-mail, phone, or WhatsApp (English spoken). We strongly recommend booking early during high season, as availability can run out despite their large fleet.
Duemila1 Motor Group
If needed, you can book a short ride with us to get to and from the rental location.
HOW WE CAN HELP
As we’ve mentioned, we’re always happy to help our guests with the local transport. Plus, since getting around without a car isn’t always easy here, although it’s not part of our job we sometimes help guests by giving lifts in our own cars for a fuel/time reimbursement. But we’ll need 24 hours’ notice, and it depends on whether we’re free when you need to travel!
The reimbursement is based on kilometers traveled at €1.50 per km, calculated as a round trip. For example, if we drive you to a restaurant 6 km away at 8pm and pick you up at 11pm, since we can’t wait three hours, we’ll return home in between. So the cost would be calculated on 24 km total.
