In this section, we share some tips on where to park for the main destinations our guests have asked about in the past – especially for Pisa, Florence, and Siena – to help you avoid entering restricted traffic zones (ZTL) and getting fined.
Of course, we don’t claim to provide exact info for every possible destination you can visit from Cubetto, because there are so many, and parking options often depend on the season. In low season, you can usually park much closer to the town centers – like in medieval villages – while in high season you might have to leave your car quite far from the town and walk in.
All tourist towns and villages have dedicated parking areas, usually well marked. These are often free in low season but about 100% of the time paid during the busy tourist months.
The parking prices we mention are current as of June 2025, but keep in mind that municipalities can change them at any time, and we might not always be up to date.
BEACHES
The GPS coordinates in the “BEACHES & BAU BEACHES” section on our site usually point to the closest parking areas, which also are almost always paid during summer but free in low season. These parking lots can get very crowded in peak times.
In summer, if you’re heading to beaches between Castiglioncello and Marina di Bibbona, you can park for free at the Via Musselburgh lot in Rosignano Solvay, or in the parking lot adjacent to the Coop’s (be careful not to park in the Coop’s lot instead, as parking there is only for customers and is time-limited), or also in the nearby streets, then take the free shuttle bus number 114 by Autolinee Toscane from the stop in front of the Coop supermarket to the beaches.
From June 13 to 30 and September 1 to 13, the shuttle runs only on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:50 pm to 12:40 am. In July and August, it runs every day every 45 minutes.

ROSIGNANO MARITTIMO
If you’re visiting the restaurants or just strolling around the medieval town of Rosignano Marittimo (the closest to us), the first parking you’ll find coming from Il Cubetto is, on the right, the one at the Church square:

It’s small, so especially in high season, you might want to continue to the two other nearby parking lots just a few steps from the town center. You’ll find the second one by continuing to the left at the end of the first, located here:

CASTIGLIONCELLO
Parking in Castiglioncello during high season can be tricky. Most of the area near the sea is off-limits to cars except residents (watch out for signs!). Unless you get very lucky finding a spot in the narrow streets, your best bet is paid parking at the train station, in the former sports field’s parking, or near the Pasquini Castle (Castello Pasquini).
For those who don’t mind walking a bit, there is also the Parcheggio delle Spianate, a large free parking lot about 1.6 km from the seafront.

FIRENZE
In the beautiful Florence, like many other Italian art cities, the whole historic center is a ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone). Only a very few authorized vehicles can enter by car. Even just outside the ZTL, parking is extremely hard to find.
If you want to get close to the center, the closest parking is the underground garage under Santa Maria Novella train station. From there, you can walk to all the main sights. It’s quite pricey and not guaranteed to have space, since it’s the closest to the city’s main monuments. But you can book a spot in advance here.
As an alternative, you can park in the large free parking lot at the Ponte a Greve Shopping Center. From there around, it’s very easy to catch a tram or bus to downtown – just ask someone nearby for directions. The most direct is the T1 tram, which takes you straight to Piazza del Duomo.

SIENA
Siena’s center is quite small and completely pedestrian. The closest and most convenient parking is the Santa Caterina parking. From there, an escalator takes you up into the city, and it’s about a 15-minute walk to the center where you’ll find the famous Piazza del Campo, the Duomo, the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, the Church of San Domenico, the Caterinian Sanctuary, and plenty of fantastic restaurants to enjoy!

PISA
We highlight two main parking options in Pisa: one paid and very close to the Piazza dei Miracoli monument complex, and a much larger free lot connected to the city center by shuttle. Of course, there are other public paid and private lots, but watch out for tourist-trap prices!
Parking at via Cammeo

cost: €3.50 per hour
It’s just 50 meters from Piazza dei Miracoli and the famous Leaning Tower). Since it’s very central, on weekends, holidays, and high season it’s it is advisable to call in advance for availability: +39 050 502742.
Parking at via Pietrasantina

It’s a large free parking lot connected to the city center by shuttle bus (line 25 of Autolinee Toscane). The shuttle runs April 1 to October 31, every day including holidays, from 10:00 am to 7:15 pm, every 15 minutes. It stops along the main Lungarni of Pisa, making it easy to reach museums and cultural sites. Ticket cost for the shuttle: €1.70.
